Time Bird, coast to coast

(Anything with two words, the first one was "space bird", which actually makes sense with "coast to coast". This doesn't. At all.) Moving on... WELCOME TO MY PHOTOSHOP DISASTER ZONE.

I'm not sure what I was trying to do here, except have fun doing things that mess with my drawings. It happens more than is probably healthy.

This horrifying blue brought to you by layers, and the letters P and S. Also, the color teal.

This version is one of my favorites, I didn't keep any of them, just screenshot them and went on my way. If I was a braver and better person I'd invest in a lot of highlighters and just draw like this.

A less eye-burn-y version! I like the moon-thing-spot-yellow-thing being so dark. The feathers on this one look pretty different up close. So little teal!
Here's the actual one, in all it's higher definition glory. Time Bird isn't actually Time Bird, even though it matches Space Bird (also I'm iffy about assigning actual genders. I think it's maybe a guy.) BUT I made this time wizard-person-thing when I was 13 and figured I'd run with...well nothing, except the wizard guy had threads too. But he also had planets. No it's not The Doctor. Though maybe that'll be next. TARDIS bird?

Bird again

Well this is what it's supposed to look like. I had some trouble with this and it involved a lot of fixes but I like the shape, the thicker line was something that was decided later and I'm not sure if I'm satisfied with it. I think it got away from the bird feeling. Or maybe it's a...chubby bird. One of those little fatty ones that lives on the ground. (Bird knowledge=barely any. Sea life knowledge=way too much)

Something horrifying happened when I hit the scan button while the cover was open. Sharing is caring!

Deciding on a Valentine's Day Ume comic. I think next year I'm going to do really minor holidays. Also I should find out when Bagel Day is over at the Perp. Because that's what's important in life. Bagel Day from high school.

I really want to take a pattern class, I don't think it's something that I'd be be very good at learning myself, too specific.

Inking practice. More colors.

Helping Jim Keefe with his inking class this semester. The class assignment was to ink four different artists on sheet that he had put together for them (and blue lined. Because he's a nice guy.)

It included Mr. Kim Deitch, Bud Sagendorf, Bill Mauldin and this Swamp Thing from Misters Stephen Bissette and John Totleben. I love inking detailed things because I don't often draw them anymore. I think it's a secret desire to put heinous amounts of lines in my art again.

Did another less bird-like bird. I only own a few warm colors. Oops. For Miss Meagan LeMay. The hair and the wings were a lot of fun. Rather fond of those four feather sections by her face.

Promo Stuff

Ume cards are in! Excited! The crop is a little tight on the top, but I'll fix it on another run.
Updated Paper Tapir cards finally, with the normal website. The blogspot still redirects and everything. So both work? Yes. Also I got a stamp! It's really nice. Very pleased.

(My UPS lady is the best.)

Space Bird

I kinda love the feather coats. I guess they're actual birds...Though I guess I didn't give it too much thought, it's not very logical. Erm bird speaking at least.

This one was a little painful. Done last night during a friends 40k Dark Heresy campaign. Finished this morning. 4 hours last night. An hour this morning. I wanted to do one similar to the first blue bird, adding that white is always fun. Wanted this one to be more heavily swirled than some of the earlier birds.

Triple Bird Score

Three bird drawings. Same sheet as the other recent marker things. Cut down. All blues and yellows. Except for that dark one really. Doves. Sparrows. Bluebirds. Ravens. (That last one totally NOT inspired by Howl's Moving Castle. What.)

I guess it was time for a break from sea life. These are also totally not screencaps because I hate trying to upload files from TIFS and resizing and ending up with five extra versions. My external HD will thank me later.

Marker Time

Two new marker doodles. I guess I draw ocean things a lot.
First one is a sea...horse...It was actually going to be a regular horse, but I decided against it. More hair. Yay hair. Unfortunately because of all the hair and fabric, the lady doesn't look like she's sitting on it anymore.  Not sure what I was going for there, blues? I think that was it. The second one was a fish...and seaweed...

Scanning and re-uploading the Ondine pic from last post.

Marker sketches

Haven't used markers in a couple of years, when in doubt. Lady drawing. This was going to be a pre-sketch of one of the pencil drawings from before, but that didn't really happen. Now she's a sea lady- ondine- thing.

Other lady drawing, with really inaccurate impossible legs! Yeah! Didn't get around to scanning this one. The ondine has been updated though.

Progress sketches

Planning some of the new mixed media pieces I'm going to be working on. There's a lot of little notes on a bunch of these, a couple of them are going to have to be refined a bunch. Trying to work a little bigger than I have in the past, we'll see how that goes. Sketches are always so messy and full of circles and lines.

My phone takes better photos than my webcam, and if these were actually black and white, they'd look as good as my scanner. Technology is frightening.

Things and stuff for the new year

Currently in the market for a paper cutter. It's harder than it looks, especially because I don't want to spend $300.

Going to be TAing for the Materials and Techniques class this semester at MCAD.

Trying to start doing some mixed media illustration again. Probably should get a hold of some illustration board. Also need to get a larger size of vellum. New print of 150 sea creatures is being dealt with. Eep! Worried about how it's going to print, especially because last time the exposure unit was on the fritz.

New Year Process

Color drop process for the Ume New Years post. Yep. Spent the 2011 to 2012 watching all three Indiana Jones flicks (and then Thor, just because you know...can't have too much Kenneth...or something) with some friends. 2012 is going to be hectic but good.
