Panel from TheDoor

For the online class.
I had a lot of fun with this panel. :)

Hunters Parade-Inked

Hyuuu~
Hunters Parade image has been finished!
A, Rin, Alana, B, Ko, and Nathaniel.
So much ink, too much. :|

Watching anime in the background again, I think it alters how I do art. Ohhhno~ Maybe I can just be a desu desu anime artist and call it a day, at least there's a market. *sigh*
Might post more online class stuff soon.
Looking at ASID and interior decorating. Ugh.

Below the Streets-Inked

Final version of the Hunters under a bridge.
It's pretty blurry because I had to size it differently for blogspot.
Anyways, 11x17 on Bristol.

Been spending my day finishing this, working on another drawing and watching 80's movies.

The Door: Thumbs

I'm remarkably proud of these thumbnails, and I never say stuff like that. Ever.

I'm also growing very attached to the story, in a weird sort of way.

Progress: Below the Streets

Working on another 11x17 piece with the Hunters. Practice practice. There's a lot of white space floating around here, because I'm doing it in gray scale it helps a little because of the shadows but this is a lot. I might have to change it a little to even out the white chunks. :|

Actually the larger diagonals were drawn from sitting in the sun while at MCAD, the windows in the Student Center cast these really interesting shadows so I drew them out and added the extra stuff and the characters.

Influenced by CLAMP. I'm a not-so-secret shojo fan.

Bleh. The more that I look at this the less I'm satisfied with those white areas. Eh, it's just pencils. Back to work.

EDIT: Prelim inking and blacks are done.

Rocket High Musical 3, collab

Broke in to Joel Vollmer's MCAD class today with Jack Kotz, and there we joined in on the activities. This was from the comic jam. We had 10 minutes for a title, 5 minutes for the first six panels and 1 minute for the last three. Normally the students would pass the page and everyone would draw one panel, however we just went back and forth. At one point Joel joined us to draw The General. Ursula Husted also added her two cents.

Ocha-ya CONvergence Room 2009

I stole some pictures from my friends on the fbook.

I figured that I should show what I've been up to on the convention line recently and this is it.
My friend Cameron came up with the idea to do a tea/ramen/rice room at CONvergence this year, we're probably going to be at Anime Detour and next CONvergence. This test run proved very successful and was for sure worth the extraordinary amount of money we dropped on it.

The final uniform for the boys (traps), we had green, white, red and brown that coincided with the tea they were serving. Green, white, fruit (grapefruit that is), and oolong.

This was the original design for the uniforms for the traps. Cameron designed them and after a few versions this is what we decided on. The finals did not have the characters on them because it was decided that it would be sort of pointless.

The tops, obi, neck piece, cup holder, and corset-type-thing were made by hand, the skirts, thigh highs and shoes were purchased or borrowed from the girls.

Not shown are the lanterns on thin bamboo stakes that were carried around by the male (girl traps) and the female outfit, which consited of a button down in matching color, blazer, fedora, and pants.

This was the main side of the room, the opposite side (by the tv cabinet) had a large three-panel screen made by Cameron and a few of our friends.
The outside balcony area had a large low table with pillows going around the edge, we had lanterns across the front part of the balcony as well. The low lighting worked really well and provided a nice, calm atmosphere for the convention go-ers. People even brought board games!

The horrors of thumbnails

Decided to post some thumbnails on here.
I figure it's a good thing to do now and then, though my process is sort of skewed. This is for Ursula Husted's (MCAD) class, called Comic Book: The Short Story. I'm doing an adaptation of The Door by E.B. White. It's a lot of fun, though a little hard to interpret. This is the first of three versions of the first five pages of an approximate 10-14 page comic. There isn't much dialog in the orignal story so that's a little hard to deal with. I made a screenplay for it, but whether it's going well or not is a little up in the air. I also did this one:
It doesn't have any text, and so far is my favorite of the three. I dunno, we'll see what the class says.

I feel sort of bad, my thumbnails are really loose and don't actually help anyone but me, so I'm not sure how everyone is going to read them. Also these thumbnails were about twice as big as I usually do them, so there was another issue. Oh well...

Other news is that I'm continuing to work with the Hunters. I'm thinking of another picture of them should be up later today or tomorrow. Also might re-pencil the fourth page of Bound after considering the options of doing an alternate layout that might work better.

Sketch sketch sketch..

Notice how frequently I update this blog? Ugh. Anyways. Been working SES these last few weeks, oh and CONvergence came and went. So I haven't been drawing much of anything and figured I should start. These two are from the Hunters concept I've been mangling, it goes with the short 5-page comic called "Bound" that is halfway inked right now.

Inked sketch of the two characters. They've got a really strange relationship that I haven't really bothered with. It's sort of generally outlined in Bound, but not to any extent. This is pretty out of character for them in the first place.

Main character doodle, this is more Asian-influence than I ever wanted, ever, in life. I like the flow overall so I guess it's okay. I'm deeply regretting those cherry blossoms.

This is the only thing I've worked a solid amount of time on in the past few weeks. I started it while bothering Joel Vollmer's comic book class (MCAD) one week, and finished it later. Actually, I also did the first Hunter picture in Joel's class.
