Final of the "Red" screenprints, they are all finished now, and I hope to get documentation done soon. All of them will be available on etsy. It's a really small run though.
Cowboy Bebop fanart, mostly of the Swordfish (the ship). Because I've been listening to a lot of Yoko Kanno. Sketch was pencil, inked and colored in Photoshop.
Digital doodle, similar to some things I did about five years ago. Sketch was pencil, inked and colored in Photoshop.
Fanart for The Hobbit, all digital.

Red: Seasons and Process
I ended up redoing the image for "Summer" (right), and after that promptly realized that then "Spring"(left) was the only one in the horizontal format, it was a little hard to change the formatting on that one, because I did really like it sideways. I'm still probably going to print some of the horizontal ones because it's a nice long composition and that's how it was originally intended to be.

Red_Illustrations for Print
I haven't updated this blog in a really long time, most things have been on the Paper Tapir one, the PT facebook, etc. Then my laptop went to the computer hospital. Before that I really just did a bunch of sketchbook stuff and no finished illustrations. So here's a minor little dump of a set that I intend to use as prints.
Series of "Little Red Riding Hood" inspired illustrations. Four of them represent seasons, the fifth was sort of a general one. I'm not sure if I want to use colored ink, or if the paper will be slightly different, and the ink will just be black. Still deciding on that, and if I want to relief print them.

"Winter" and "fall", despite the order that I drew these in, the order that I intended them to be seen in was: fall, winter, spring, summer. They somewhat show the passage of time. Also two of these have two wolves, and two have only one. And the fifth one has a single wolf, but that's the outlier anyways.
"Summer" and the un-related one. The fifth one was actually the illustration that I sketched first. So we see how that turned out, it's also the only one that is outwards facing. I wanted over the different seasons the layouts to get more and more open, and less closed in. Red has changed a lot from the original sketches. I don't know where she's getting all those clothes!

Prints!
This is the catfish print I did for the print exhange during the MCAD CE class that I took. Our theme was "chimera", this was the first freshwater fish that I've drawn, except it's got human legs. I guess it's not so fishy. Screenprinted on cardstock.
This is the Aphotic Zone print I've been working on for a while, it's going to be in a show at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts this fall with a bunch of fantastic artists. Our theme was "Under Pressure". More details on the show later! This was an intaglio print, on Rives BFK.

Reopan process
Images of the reopan print.
"Reopan" comes from the Old English "to reap", it's for a print exchange at the MCAD continuing studies Open Edition printmaking class, in which our theme was "ripe".
The perforated words were done by laserjet printing the text, cutting it out of a larger sheet, taping it to the print and doing the perforation with an etching needle on cardboard (shown here by this lovely Crayola Glow Dome box). The tape and paper were removed and the text was repunched to get the proper depth. 7x7", relief print.
Yes, I do love that green serifed one. A lot. Maybe I'll make more like that. The really bright green makes me happy. Even though that's not "wheaty" at all really.

Mini card
Printed out one of the headers, I might use this as promos for Ume Abroad, I like the size too. Though I would have to switch companies for printing. Haven't thought about what to do with the back. Will be doing that soon. Working on that among other things. Going to try and get back to books and stuff soon.
I have about sixteen pages done right now. Will be trying to make it to twenty this weekend. Before June I want to have a pretty big chunk done in b/w and a lot of it colored. Going to decided on final coloring style soon as well.

Amaya's Adventures in Printland
So people have been keen on getting prints of my bird drawings.
Alas. It has been fairly troublesome. I own a nice little Epson printer, it's...sort of not for what I do, but it works. The last time I used it was for senior project and it was a dream compared to the ones at school because it was less picky about deckled edges.
But apparently that leads to...other issues...

First
attempt: Ink levels too low.
Glossy photo paper is a no-no.
Colors are

Updating PT and Print!

Final print of the Gyeongbuk mini comic, it's available for sale over on the NEW Paper Tapir store, and will also be fore sale at MIX. I can't seem to win with colors online though...The paper color is a little darker on the image.
I've been doing some updates to Paper Tapir recently, slow going, but I'm happy with them. If there are any issues I hope to sort them out relatively quickly. Probably will forever stay with this strange blog format, even for the full PT site, because coding is a beast and I'm not hot on spending hours on it.

Prints!
Shark intaglio test print, hard ground and dry point for class.
Aquatint test, sort of a weird soft tree landscape type thing. It looks super foreboding if flipped around. >_<
Skeleton hand screenprint. Done in like an hour and a half including exposure time. Which was probably bad, oh well. Edition of 10. There's also a black edition, which I still need to document.Tuesday, February 8, 2011

Screenprint
This isn't actually what the final edition looked like, this was just my favorite proof. Final for the Print, Paper, Book class that I'm taking, These colors are really off, for some reason, even scanning it was a little wonky. The bright yellow is a little off. Alternatively it's the fact that I've gotten very little sleep in the past few days and am in a room with very iffy flourescent lights.
