Recent Doodles

| Soleil |
These two were when I was doing a bunch of fanart with lighter colors. Michiru and Haruka from Sailor Moon. Also another Thranduil from The Hobbit.
"Butcher Guard", also fanart from Hellboy II. With colors and without.
I apparently am not fantastic at uploading things on more than one or two places.
There is a more consistent stream of updates on my art tumblr.

Color Doodles
First two doodles I did of this guy/lady/whatever. Japanese influenced I guess. For the most part.
Experimenting with color and movement. These drawings were all done in one of those paper back Moleskine's with a Staedtler marker.
Two newer ones, um Japanese influenced, and Korean, both with the lotus motif and Eight Fold on the right hand one. Yeahhh...Back to work~Monday, August 27, 2012
Whale Comic_Progress
This is the "dead whale" comic I've been working on in whatever spare time I have. After realizing I hadn't done a comic about anything ocean related, I decided on...a dead whale. Repeating patterns! Will be posting two prints later that I did in the last few months. Mostly been doing freelance stuff, and just got some new findings for Paper Tapir winter stuff.

Progress on Ume Abroad
Been working on Ume Abroad, this bigger panel is costing me though, because I refuse to utilize my tiny awkward flickery light box, and choose to use this window. It's fine, until it gets dark out.
Going to finish inking it today though, then the panels get "normal" sized again for a while and I don't have to do larger things. A plus of this whole thing is that I'm pretty awful at doing the perspective on these types of buildings, so it's good for me.
Here's a progress update on the inking. It's slow going. I took a break with working on finishing the reopan print.

Azen and Raz and Alimen
Two doodles of some characters that are part of my friends comic and long term project, Oria Ohtar. You can find out more about it here. I really don't draw men that often, or masculine men. It becomes painfully obvious. Also. I like scarves. These were done with copic on watercolor paper with a pentel brush and stylo.
Update! I drew the last redhead. Well sort of last. This is Alimen, also from Oria Ohtar. He's my favorite because he's got a lot of hair and a bird.

Selene and a double bird score
The Selene drawing was an experiment, one that I'm not entirely satisfied with. Colors were a little to bright. She used to have little horns, but those got lost.
Super 80's bird I just shouldn't talk about. S/he's fancy and has a body suit with flared bottoms. That's probably enough. The hair on this one was fun. A little bright overall.
Been wanting to do a white bird for a while. It took a -lot- longer than expected, well sort of. I expected it. The white ink does really well for shorter lines, the swirls proved a little more difficult. Not sure if I should have added more around the edges. Might go back and change it later.
Deciding how I should go about prints. Things I am not used to!

Inking practice. More colors.
Helping Jim Keefe with his inking class this semester. The class assignment was to ink four different artists on sheet that he had put together for them (and blue lined. Because he's a nice guy.)
It included Mr. Kim Deitch, Bud Sagendorf, Bill Mauldin and this Swamp Thing from Misters Stephen Bissette and John Totleben. I love inking detailed things because I don't often draw them anymore. I think it's a secret desire to put heinous amounts of lines in my art again.
Did another less bird-like bird. I only own a few warm colors. Oops. For Miss Meagan LeMay. The hair and the wings were a lot of fun. Rather fond of those four feather sections by her face.

More Free Hand Inking and Colors

Veggies!

Did this one during the last class that I've been helping in. A lot of really good work went up today. Makes me want to draw regular comics again!I think it'd be fun to screenprint some of these ink drawings but I'd really have to refine the edges. Every time the brush gets pulled up and I adjust levels after scanning things get a little fuzzy. It became very obvious after trying to color the green part. Also have to dig around for extra ink cartridges, out of ink, lines getting progressively furrier.

Free hand inking again

Still not doing fantastic in the health department. More free hand inks. Animals lend themselves to swirly things. Roosters especially.
I dunno about this, it was going to be a bird, then it got away from me a little.
Tiger! He's a little lumpy...
Straight inked rooster, sadly he was smooshed on the side of one of my pages so he didn't get as much body in the back as I would have liked, also the top suffered a little too.
Pony!

Ink Drawings 2
Ink Drawings
Been suffering the winter-sick recently. I thought that being out of college would save me, but nope! Taking the time off from chronic book-making to do some free hand inking. It's sort of relaxing.

River concept for maybe integrating into a comics project, not sure at this point. Comics is now sort of the same as "book making" sooo yep.
Two dragons, top one is like a sky dragon thing. I guess.
It's like a peacock bird, man I'm bad at descriptions. Sheet of some natural things and a different type of bird next. Yep.
